The Altair 18 is a spectacular pre-war apartment building that was renovated recently in 2006 by an Architectural Digest Top 100 architect, Rafael de Cardenas—making it one of the hottest pieces of real estate in the Flatiron.The building boasts only 22 units and is nestled at the bottom of the Flatiron District—just adjacent to Chelsea and south of Union Square. Though not a park in the “traditional sense” (it doesn’t offer much in the way of outdoor activities), Union Square offers plenty of opportunities for socializing and community outreach and a variety of quick lunch options with its many food trucks. During December, a holiday market fills the sidewalks and pathways. A green market sets up shop every Monday.Madison Square Park offers green spaces and community activities. Large lawns are open from late spring to late fall. Beautiful flower gardens surround the perimeter of the park. The dog run on the western side of the park offers a space for dogs to run and play. The onsite Shake Shack was the first of the chain’s many locations to open and is still very crowded all year long. The High Line is also nearby, offering residents a birds-eye view of the city from an abandoned elevated railroad track.

The Flatiron, Chelsea and Union Square areas have some of the most popular restaurants in Manhattan. In the summertime, residents flock to The Porch in Union Square for al fresco dining and drinks. Boqueria in the Flatiron offers moderately priced tapas and a fantastic wine selection. Many residents love heading to the High Line to dine out at the Chelsea Market. Mario Batali’s Del Posto is an obvious choice with plenty of authentic Italian dishes gracing the menu.

By night, locals love heading over to the Flatiron Room for live jazz music. The interior is decorated in vintage accents. Classic 1920s-style cocktails are served in chic glassware. The selection of whiskey, bourbon and rye is extremely impressive. Residents can also head to the Chelsea or Meatpacking neighborhoods to party at one of the many nightclubs, like Avenue or The Electric Room which offers late-night dancing in a British ambiance.

While there’s plenty of shopping in the Flatiron District, many locals love heading to Union Square for a larger mix of unique specialty stores and large chains. Tribeca, which is close by, offers incredible high-end shopping. SoHo is another prominent destination for luxury shoppers with a taste for specialty stores.
